Today I began the list. The list is shorter than I expected, but let me back up for a moment. The goal of this first list is to do the bare minimum of structural work to get the boat back in the watersafely.
Any Suggestions???
1. Vaka (main hull) A. Fill the 5"x46" hole where the centerboard used to be. B. Replace rotted fore and aft bulkhead sections.
A. The aft 3' literally fell off as I was shifting the ama today, so reusing it is no longer an option. So there are 3 options 1. Find used Hobie 16, or equivalent hull. Anyone want to donate one? 2.Build deep V stich and glue ama. Maybe enough later resistance to not need any leeboard. 3. Build 2/3 scale of Vaka, Jerry gave me this idea. This would likely require a leeboard, or daggerboard on the ama.
A. Find out what the existing rig is. The Mast is 18' tall, with stays attaching at about 10'. It splits in two pieces. The boom is 10' long B. replace pins and clips for existing standing rigging, which is in OK shape. C. Replace all running rigging. Evidence of a boom vang, boom downhaul, main and jib halyard, 2:1 outhaul.
A. Rudder mount for Hobie 16, I think. No blade however. B. Make replacement blade and tiller.
A. add tramp B. bimini/dodger convert to boom tent C. add a floor to vaka. This will give a place to store heavy gear near the middle of the boat. D. trailer bunks and quick set up system. Ideally when done, I would like to go from trailer to sailor in less than 20 minutes from arriving at the launch site. {mos_sb_discuss:22}
