Well we got some strips on the molds. I was so set on having the pine accent strips for the top few inches I used 3 of the 12' pine strips, then pieced together a cedar strip, followed by another pine strip. I couldn't stick to just using the rubberbands though just not tight enough for the pine strips so I used some staples. The cedar, however, laid in nicely. I only used staples at the but joints.
We had put tacks in on the shear line and rubberbanded the first strip to that. After we did the 5 strips on my canoe, we tried getting some strips on Chad's. It was all wonky. We aren't sure if the shear marks are off, or iff the pine strip is just wobbly. I think once we get a few strips on it, the shear will smooth out. We didn't look at my shear until after 3 strips were on and it has a sweet smooth shear line. We also ran out of rubberbands, but will be back at it this week!
It is an awesome feeling to have some solid wood on the sides of the boats finally!
