Chad and I put in another couple hours of work this monday night. Beautiful evening, listening to the Tampa Bay Rays on the radio beat the pants of the Yankees in their home opener. We started on Chads boat, he now has 5 strips on each side. Each new task is a fun milestone. First getting the strips cut, then the molds up followed by the first cedar strip. Then we spent a good chunk of time admiring the shear line. Our new favorite thing to contemplate is the bow joint. We followed the advice from Gil Gilpatrick in his book Building a Strip Canoe
![]() ![]() We are using more staples that we originally counted on, but they are so fast and easy. We will see how they are to remove though!
I am so glad we decided to take a step back and remove the strips from my canoe that were trimmed poorly at the ends. Now that we have the method down, the bow and stern look great. At this point I have 4 cedar and pine strips per side., so it is coming along nicely!
I tried to set up my camera to take shots at 1 minute intervals, but it was too far back on the refrigerator I was using as a stand, so I got a lot of glare, but here it is anyway!
